Interlibrary Loan is a service available through the cooperation of public libraries in Ontario, coordinated by the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS).

Locate material from other Ontario Libraries

Looking for an item but can't find it in our library? Try Interlibrary Loan

When you submit a request, our Interlibrary Loan staff send the request out to other libraries in the province. It usually takes 2 - 4 weeks to find the item and receive it for you.

Staff at the Information Services desk are happy to assist you in searching the SOLS database, or you can search yourself at www.info.library.on.ca Additionally, staff at the information Services and Access Services desks can submit an Interlibrary Loan request for you. Interlibrary loan service is available to members of the Cobourg Public Library who:

  • have less than $5.00 outstanding in their accounts
  • have no items checked out on their cards that are more than 6 weeks overdue

What can you request?

  • A maximum of 4 items per patron, at one time
  • Items by title, author or subject

Photocopies of articles from magazines or newspapers

  • Microfilm from provincial and national archives for genealogy research

What can't you request?

  • Reference material
  • Material in high demand (eg. books on Oprah's book list, gardening books in June)
  • Items published within the past 12 months (please suggest as an item to purchase!)
  • Whole issues of magazines
  • "Rush" material: it usually takes 2 - 4 weeks for the requested item to be received
  • Videos/DVDs of popular movies currently showing in theatres
Borrowing charges occasionally apply for photocopies, or for specialized materials from some university or private libraries. We will try to notify you in advance of these charges before continuing the request.
